LEARNING
ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES
At St Alban’s High School we offer a wide range of enrichment opportunities.
Sporting Opportunities
Every member of the school community has the opportunity to participate in sporting activities. There are a number of clubs available to pupils of all abilities both at lunch time and after school to include netball, football, rugby, crossfit and weightlifting, as well as rounders, cricket and athletics in the summer term. Our sporting teams regularly compete against other schools in a range of tournaments and sporting events.
Educational Visits and Trips
The school offers a variety of educational visits and trips, which range from local day trips to residential visits abroad. In offering such valuable opportunities, our main aim is to provide pupils with a range of learning experiences beyond the classroom, to develop their skills and broaden their knowledge.
Opportunities to be creative
There are plenty of opportunities for pupils to develop their skills and talents in creative and expressive arts. The music department at St Alban’s is one of the busiest in the school and plays a central role to its ethos and life. The school choirs are integral to the life of the school. We also stage two school productions every year, one being for Upper School pupils and the other for Lower School pupils. There are also numerous clubs and opportunities for pupils to practice their artistic skills in art clubs and to cook in baking club.
Duke of Edinburgh Award
Pupils have the opportunity to achieve the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at various levels and participate in a range of activities from volunteering to physical activities, life skills to expeditions. Achieving a DofE Award is a passport to a brighter future, valued by employers and universities.
Opportunities to discuss and debate
There are ample opportunities for pupils to discuss and debate at lunchtimes and after school. Some year 9 pupils choose to visit the local courts of justice every year in preparation for the Mock Trials. There are also opportunities for pupils to compete in competitions such as Youth Speaks.
