DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY – PRODUCT DESIGN

In St. Alban’s the umbrella of Design & Technology focuses on Product Design and Food Technology. These two areas are supported in Key Stage 3 by Graphical communication skills and CAD/CAM skills which enhance the designing and projects made. Schemes of work in KS3 are reviewed and developed annually to inspire pupils and keep up to date with modern fashions and trends in technology.

This leads pupils towards a Key stage 4 GCSE option of Product design. The Product Design option is intended to give pupils a clear understanding of the design process and how it fits into society today in terms of sustainability and the environment and meeting the customers’ needs. Pupils use modern methods to design and make products replicating modern engineering methods.

At Key Stage 5 A level in Product Design is on offer, where skills, knowledge and understanding from KS4 are built upon and extended to produce problem solvers and innovative design thinkers.
