At St Alban’s, we have an extremely talented cohort of students who excel in many different areas. Our ‘MAT’ (More Able and Talented) register enables us to recognise and celebrate our students’ achievement, and stretch and challenge them to reach their full potential. We recognise 20% of each year group as ‘more able’ in specific subjects, nominated by staff, based on students’ assessment levels, class work, homework and oral contributions in lessons. We also recognise students who have distinctive talent in creative arts such as Music and Drama.
When students are nominated, we contact parents to notify them and this year’s Year 7 MAT pupils received a ‘Welcome pack’. There is extensive extra curricular provision at St Alban’s which we encourage MAT pupils to make the most of, alongside developing specific subject interest outside the classroom.
Our Key Stage 3 MAT Council provides students the opportunity to shape our MAT provision, and our Parents Focus Group led by our MAT link governor, Don Tedesco, has made a strong start this year by identifying key priorities for the school in developing our MAT provision further.
Please feel free to contact MAT Co-ordinator Sophie Toovey if you have any questions or would like to get involved.
