Four students from Abergavenny are playing leading roles in an innovative production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ at St. Alban’s RC High School, Pontypool next week (February 10 to 12).
The story is based on the Gospels’ accounts of the last week of Jesus’ life, beginning with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem and ending with the crucifixion.
Director, Miss Tracey Coleman, wanted to take a more modern approach to the musical so that it would appeal to a younger audience so, rather than robes and loin cloths, the disciples will be in leather jackets and jeans!
The lead role of Jesus is taken by Miles Harding (Year 13) from Abergavenny, who is hoping to go to one of the top drama schools in the UK to study Musical Theatre this September, and is very excited to be playing the very demanding role.
Also from Abergavenny are Julius Delarama (Year 11) playing Peter and Saffron Wainwright (Year 13) and Emily Brown (Year 11) in the roles of the ‘Soul Girls’.
Tickets at £7 are still available by ringing the school on 01495 765800. Doors open at 6.30pm and the performances start at 7pm.
